Our 2–3 years provision

Our 2–3 years provision builds on the 0–2 foundations, supporting children as they grow in independence, language, and social confidence, aligned with EYFS Development Matters (Birth–3 moving towards 3–4).

Children progress from sensory-led play to choice-making, sustained play, and cooperative interaction. They develop Personal, Social and Emotional skills, learning to manage emotions, follow routines, and build positive relationships, while Communication and Language extends through short sentences, back-and-forth conversations, and expressive interaction. Physical Development continues through climbing, balancing, and fine motor activities, alongside increasing independence in self-care routines, including toilet training.

The environment is carefully designed to support child-led exploration. Children can choose to immerse themselves in the home corner, engage in construction play, explore the reading area with age-appropriate books, express themselves in the messy and mark-making areas, or retreat to the calm zone when they need a quiet space to decompress. Practitioners use shared and sustained thinking to extend learning, embedding early literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving naturally into play and everyday interactions. Regular circle times and outdoor sessions support confidence, social skills, and wellbeing.

Children move confidently from dependent toddlers into curious, capable learners, ready for the preschool stage.
